Rohit Shetty, a name famous for churning out bigger and successful comedies, returns with his latest comic caper ‘Bol Bachchan’ – the movie that has been much in the air since quite a long time. Shetty is a marvelous filmmaker and he knows the art of comedy which is why his movies make good business at the box office. He takes special care of all the departments of the film. In addition to the fine comedy he presents on screen, the action sequences are his forte as well. His combo with Ajay Devgn is appreciated and adored a lot and the masses approve it with gusto.
Bol Bachchan is the remake of the 1979’s superhit comedy Gol Maal (starring Amol Palekar in double roles). Rohit tries to inject one thing in the product throughout the movie called Entertainment. Amol Palekar’s comedy was fantastic and brilliantly made according to the requirements of the era whereas Bol Bachchan carries the ingredients suited best to today’s taste such as the story is changed a bit (as per today’s audiences’ taste) and latest technology’s usage, etc.
Bol Bachchan too walks on the lines of Gol Maal where a single person acts as two different entities.
Abbas (Abhishek Bachchan) is in financial problems and this situation leads him to go to Ranakpur along with his well wisher Shashtriji (Asrani) and his sister Sania (Asin). There he lands into a situation where he has to lie about his name before the villagers. But this incident brings him a job as a supervisor at Prithviraj (Ajay Devgn) place. Prithviraj hates the lies and the liars but destiny coerces Abbas tell series of lies before Prithviraj.
From this disarray situation, there comes the game of lies by a single person acting as two different entities – Abbas and Abhishek.
Both Ajay and Abhishek do their parts with aplomb making the audiences enjoy to the fullest. But it is Abhishek Bachchan who gets the main focus since the movie revolves around his characters.
Although Rohit is a master of comedies, but this film tries hard at some places to create the laughs. There are many junctions where the film shows comic situation but you do not find any rib-tickling comedy to enjoy with. Even at many places, the film loses the pace and turns out to be inconsistent.
But there are really funny scenes where you cannot help holding your belly and burst into bigger laughs such as Abhishek Bachchan’s dance on famous Hindi songs, Ajay Devgn’s obsession with speaking broken English and funny one-liners, etc.
Story is interesting. Screenplay carries weight and it gets you glued to the screens and gives the director freedom to show his dexterity on screen. Yunus Sajawal dserves the brownie points for writing such a good and worthy script (though it carries some flaws mentioned above, but seeing the overall culmination they can be overlooked). Rohit Shetty’s direction is a class in itself. He really has the potential to make the audience sit and enjoy the film till it lasts on celluloid. He has absolute command over the genre of filmmaking and comedy. Himmesh Reshammiya and Ajay-Atul’s music is melodious. Title track Bol Bachchan and ‘Chalao Na Nain hit the hearts. Dudley’s cinemotogrpahy is a work of art. Jai Singh Nijjar’s action is first rate. Dialogues by Farhad-Sajid are catchy.
Abhishek Bachchan delivers the superb performance by enacting double roles in the film. His comical acting will surely brings up more fan following for him. Ajay Devgn is brilliant. He allures the masses with his style of speaking English. Asin is gorgeous and wonderful. Prachi Desai does well. Krushna delivers the goods with conviction. Archana Puran Singh is just about okay. Asrani is in his elements. Rest of the cast is good to watch.

Bol Bachchan is a thorough entertainer and has potential to work big time at the box office.

This film is one that seems to e truly promising. Directed by Rohit Shetty, ‘Bol Bachchan’ boasts of a cast that is more than impressive. The film stars the top names in Bollywood like Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Asin Thottumkal, Prachi Desai and Abhishek Bachchan. The film was originally supposed to release on Diwali, in 2011 itself. But that is the same day that Shah Rukh Khan had chosen for the release of his film ‘Ra One’. The moment Rohit Shetty found out about this co-incidence, he shifted the date t 2012. Obviously the director did not want to compete with the man who is going to work with him on his next project, Angoor.
The story of the film has been developed by Farhan Yunus and Sajawal Sajid. The dialogues have also been taken care of by Sajid himself. Dudley is the DOP for this film, while Jai Singh Nijjar is responsible for the direction of action sequences. Steven H. Bernard is in charge of editing and Narendra Rahurikar is the art director for ‘Bol Bachchan’.
The rumours have been flying round that this film is a remake of or even copy of the ‘Golmaal’. For all the fans who were confused by this piece of information, let me tell you that the film was actually declared to be a tribute to the ‘Golmaal’ that was released in 1979. The story goes that Ajay was offered the film ‘Golmaal 4’ originally by the director but he turned it down. The reason he cited was that a ‘Golmaal’ sequel every year might not be a good idea. The actor felt that at least a 2 year gap is essential between the last film and the next. Since the ‘Golmaal’ series just cannot happen without Devgn. Shetty decided to take his advice. Instead, he came up with the idea of ‘Bol Bachchan’.
This film plays with the unique idea of casting the above mentioned actors in the roles that were originally there in the ‘Golmaal’ directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Abhishek Bachchan has been chosen to play Ram Prasad which was originally done by Amol Palekar. Ajay Devgn will be seen in the character of Bhawani Shankar, originally played by Utpal Dutt. Asin has been chosen to play the lead female role. From what we have heard, this was first offered to Genelia D’Souza. But for unknown reasons, the bubbly actress had walked out o the film.
However we have to admit, that when it comes to getting a role, Krushna Abhishek of ‘Jubilee Comedy Circus’ really showed us how to do it in style. The participant has d complained that the director has not yet offered him a role in one of his films, inspire of promising to do so earlier. But, the performance that he delivered simply bowled the director over. He was so happy with Krushna that he actually offered him a part in ‘Bol Bachchan’. Archana Puran Singh and Abhishek Avasthi were also offered roles in the same film.
The shooting commenced on 24th of August, 2011. The locations where it was shot include the beautiful city of Jaipur, Jaigarh, Chomu Palace, Samode Palace, City Palace, Nahargarh etc.
From whatever we have heard and seen, ‘Bol Bachchan’ seems to be a film that is worth looking out for in 2012. Let’s see how much of the interest it manages to hold and how much it generates when it hits the theatres.
