Ajay Devgan says buying Golmaal rights is ethical

Mumbai: There have been rumors that Bol Bachchan is the remake of the 70s comic caper Golmaal but the actor-producer Ajay Devgan says that there is not much similarity between the two films. He had bought the rights of Golmaal (1979) before making the film and he says that it is ethical to fetch in the rights of the movie.
The film is an inspiration not a ditto copy, this is what the makers of the film have been pointing out. The original ‘Golmaal’ was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and featured the brilliant actor Amol Palekar, Bindiya Goswami, Utpal Dutt and Dina Pathak in main leads.
Rohit Shetty has directed Bol Bachchan that stars Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Prachi Desai in pivotal characters. Amitabh Bachchan too has been roped in a cameo. Ajay says that initially people told him that there was no need to buy the rights of the movie but he strictly believes that if one gets inspired by a movie, the rights of which have to be bought.
He mentions as the film inspires him a lot thus making a film on is like a tribute to the original. And it is ethical to buy the rights since in a business ethics are widely important. If you follow the rules, people will follow you.
Ajay Devgan plays the role which Utpal Dutt had played in Golmaal and Abhishek Bachchan enacts double role like Amol Palekar did in the original. Ajay’s character is of a wrestler who has passion for speaking English. He keeps on speaking wrong English and thinks he speaks right. No one points out his fault as all are afraid of him.
To do this role, Devgan had to gain weight to show his muscles since he was to play a wrestler. The film will be released on July 6th.
